Scores for 2017 Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition have been posted!

Event Details

The Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition will once again use the new format: On Saturday, come out and watch our talented kite flyers performing demonstrations of kite flying set to music as well as pair & team kite flying demonstrations. Interested in learning how to fly? Instructors will be on hand to teach the basics of two string and four string kite flying as well!

Then, join us all-day Sunday for kite flying competition and entertainment.  We'll begin Sunday with the non-musical precision disciplines, and spend the whole afternoon competing while flying to music.

This year the event is being held at JOCKEYS RIDGE!  Yes, Jockeys Ridge on the dunes across from the Kitty Hawk Kites. We're still working out the details but the park rangers will haul our equipment up to the dune if we're ready at a specified time in the morning. I will let everyone know when a time is determined.

Kitty Hawk Kites holds the 32nd Annual Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition on September 9 & 10 2017.  Two days of competitive kite flying, team performances and kites dancing to music!
The Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition holds several competitions throughout the weekend. Spectators are encouraged to watch the competitions.  Kitty Hawk Kites will also give free stunt and power kite lessons for any spectator willing to learn!

Competitor information  (Top)

Depending upon registration numbers, some disciplines may be combined for scheduling efficiency. All scores will be reported to the AKA and Eastern League by discipline, regardless of how they are run.

NOTE:  OBSKC will be running the Program Precision format for non-Novice, individual dual- and multi-line precision disciplines.  The Program Precision format requires that the competitor fly the three figures listed below (in order) as components of a 1-4 minute technical program.  If you haven't flown the format before, it's fast, fun, and much more exciting than the "standard" precision format.  There will be on-field briefings before and after precision disciplines for questions.

Novices will still compete under the old-style format where each figure will be flown individually, followed by a 1-3 minute technical program.  As we've tried at prior events this season, we're pre-publishing just 3 figures for every discipline, so there's no excuse not to get out and practice!

OBSKC will be run under the rules and guidelines in the International Sport Kite (ISK) Competition Rules version 2.4, ISK Judges' Book version 2.2, ISK Compulsories Book version 2.2, and the AKA Appendix version 2.6.5.
