The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority and the City of Wildwood welcomes you to come and fly on the beautiful beaches along our famous boardwalk!

Friday, May 23

Join us early for our Media Day Kite Show at noon on the beach behind the Wildwoods Convention Center for the traditional unlocking of the summer season! In the afternoon, event registration opens at 4:00pm at the Festival Field tent on the beach at Rio Grande Ave. A reminder to all Kite fliers – everyone must register and sign the waiver to fly on our fields or at indoor flying. This is imperative in protecting the AKA insurance policy. Registration will remain open until 6:00pm. If you miss registration on Friday, registration continues on Saturday beginning at 8:00am at the Festival Field tent on the beach at Rio Grande Ave. Kite sales will be taking place at the Festival Field tent and will be open along with sales of event merchandise beginning today! Cash and all major credit cards are accepted.

At 6:00pm, join us for the South Jersey Kite Flyers (SJKF) Welcome Social located pool side at the Oceanic Hotel. At 9:00pm, the annual Nite Kite Show is held on the beach at Rio Grand Ave. Bring your strobes, spotlights and your kites! The Nite Kite Show goes on until 11:00pm.

Saturday, May 24

Why not try out some other fun events geared towards introducing new folks to our sport – join us at the Learn To Fly Field, Fighter Kite Competition, Candy Drop, Running of the Bols – for kids and adults! - and the Rev Mega Fly, all happening on Fields 1, 2, and 4 throughout the day. Throughout the day, experience the thrill of watching single line, dual line and quad line kite flyers perform their aerial acrobatics taking place on Field 3 - c’mon down off the boardwalk and be a part of the events!

The WIKF Auction will be held on Saturday night in the Ballroom at the Convention Center and is open to the public! Our Silent Auction begins at 7:00pm and the Loud Auction begins at 8:00pm. Remember, the auction supports this festival so please support the auction – credit cards will be accepted! Donations are welcome, very much appreciated and may be shipped in advance or hand delivered at registration.  Thank you very much in advance for your generosity!!!

Sunday, May 25

A second day of great competition and kite flying is planned for Sunday! Competition continues as the East Coast Stunt Kite Championships wrap up. Another fun day for the public ensues at the Learn To Fly Field, Candy Drop, Rokkaku Challenge, Rev Games and our Ground Display judging, all happening on Fields 1, 2, & 4, and the Festival Field throughout the day. Throughout the day, experience the thrill once again of watching single line, dual line and quad line kite flyers perform their aerial acrobatics taking place on Field 3. Become a part of the judging panel for the Open Individual Outdoor Unlimited sport kite competition happening on Field 3 - c’mon down off the boardwalk and be a part of the events!

Returning this year is the 5th annual Scott E. Spencer Memorial Wildwood Kitemakers Competition, sponsored by the South Jersey Kite Flyers!

Competition will be in three categories: Judges’ Choice, Kitemakers’ Choice and Novice. All entries will be flown together at the designated time. All judges and kitemakers will walk from kite to kite together, with each kitemaker being given a short time to discuss their kite and reel it in to show off any special parts (the idea is for kitemakers to learn from each other). After all kites have been seen, the judges will choose a winner for Judges’ Choice and the competitors will vote for Kitemaker’s Choice.

Each 1st place winner of the judges’ Choice and Kitemakers’ Choice will receive a $100 cash prize. The top Novice Kitemaker wins memberships in both the AKA and SJKF. All prizes are sponsored by SJKF!

All kites must be handmade by the entrant. No proxies. Multiple entries are permitted for one entry fee. Please note that our definition of novice is anyone making kites for three years or less who has not won an award at any other competition in a previous year.

After a day filled with fun and good times, why not carry that in to the evening? Join us for this year’s a-la-carte dinner at Little Italy, 5401 Atlantic Ave., Wildwood Crest. Seating is at 7:00pm. To ensure availability and for head-count purposes only, please RSVP with this registration form. Come join in the fun!

Monday, May 26

Today brings another type of competition – the World Indoor Kite Competition in the Wildwoods Convention Center taking place in the West Hall!  This year, the indoor competition will include both the Open Individual Indoor Unlimited discpline, as well as the new Indoor Single Line Ballet format, in which competitors fly a kite with just one string in a category all their own.

NOTE:  ECSKC will be running the Program Precision format for non-Novice, individual dual- and multi-line precision disciplines.  The Program Precision format requires that the competitor fly the three figures listed below (in order) as components of a 1-4 minute technical program.  If you haven't flown the format before, it's fast, fun, and much more exciting than the "standard" precision format.  There will be on-field briefings before and after precision disciplines for questions.

ECSKC will be run under the rules and guidelines in the International Sport Kite (ISK) Competition Rules version 2.4, ISK Judges' Book version 2.2, ISK Compulsories Book version 2.2, and the AKA Appendix version 2.6.5.
